My 255/85/16 Coopers are better than my 265/75/16 BFG's in snow. That is deep 3"-14" of snow. Tacoma's are 1 wheel drive unless in 4X4 (my 08 TRD is). When i'm driving on snow packed/ice covered roads the 265 has more traction. Driving in snow, not plowed packed roads the taller 255 is the way to go.

Well, it was built with 245/75r16's, so it's only 10mm skinnier than stock, and 235/85r16's are the size used on Ford 3/4 and single wheel 1 ton's up 1998 at least - and they're bigger that the taco by just a little bit. Tire selection is pretty darn limited in 255/85r16 ...35/10.5-R17 tires are 2.01 inches (51.14 mm) larger in diameter than 255/85-R16 tires and the speedometer difference is 5.7% ….
