Another thing worth trying is to loosen the fitting on the back of the speedo head and see if that makes a difference. I pulled the cluster and apparently "gunk" had migrated up. the speedometer cable and was gumming up the place where. the cable enters the cluster. I cleaned it with Q-tips soaked in. brake cleaner and paper towels and lubed it with typewriter oil. Hopefully it is good for another 10,000 miles.This lubricant works great!! The speedometer cable in my classic car was making noise and the speedometer needle was jumpy. I pulled the cable out of the sheath and used Kable-Ease to lubricate the cable and re-installed it. I just dissconect the cable from the speedo and use pouder grafite. put a small amount of pouder grafite in the cable end then pour a little rubbing alcahol in the cable end. The rubbing alcahol makes the grafite run through the cable like water. You can lube the whole cable in seconds that way.Get a tube of Speedometer Lubricant (Liquid Graphite) Dry graphite will not work it's way down the housing to lube the cable. Also, lg will not collect dust/trash like other oils/grease. It's not that expensive. Take the cable loose at the speedo and let it slowly dribble down the inside of the housing. Takes about 1/2 tube to lube the cable.

Mine did the same thing and the bouncing Loosened the needle.
