15hp strange loss of power. 07-01-2014, 03:04 PM. Hi All, I have a 15hp (15fhm) 2 stroke and here is the issue. Engine will start up fine 1st pull. Engine will idle fine. Go into gear and idle fine. In idle will rev up fine. However under load wont go past half power. at points with WOT it seems to try.The motor does not run after throttling up. The problem may persist even after doing the usual spark plug replacement, fuel pipe, tank check. On the plus side, carburetor failure is rare in these engines. 4. No Trim or Tilt/Blown Fuse: The 10 AMP fuse on the motor blows causing the engine to stop at the tilt. If pressure falls of at RPM then you will need further testing and inspection of booth fuel pumps, fittings, and hoses.To test the motor, the first step is to remove the power to it by disconnecting the blue and green wires. Remove the quick-disconnect plug between the motor and solenoid (if provided) or detach the two wires where they connect to the solenoid or relay. Next, get a timing light and run the engine and hook the timing light up to each plug wire one at a time and see if the timing light flashes or not.
