Helicoil vs time sert

Prior to my purchasing, a spark plug blew out of cylinder #3. The shop repaired the blown threads with a helicoil. I have always been afraid of it blowing out. In fact, it may have been repaired with the Dorman kit. I have purchased the timesert kit, but have not found the time to pull the helicoil/ dorman and replace with the timesert..

Recently, the timesert became loose and caused damage to one of my coils. After doing some research, it appears that Helicoils are a more permanent solution.However, for threads that are used over and over again like sparkplug or sump plug threads a helicoil type insert tends to work its way out of the parent hole over time and a Time-Sert is the more permanent repair. There is not a lot of difference in strength between a Time-Sert and a wire STI and both protect soft alloys from stripping.Perma's are made out of stainless instead of whatever soft crap Heli's are made from (I think it's solder). Probably better, but better junk is still junk. Stick with the Time-Sert. According to Time Sert, the bottom of the insert is the part that locks it into the tapped hole and it should not be shortened.
