The rear axle is commonly swapped out with an opened up GM 1/2 ton rotor and GM Metric calipers.

I just bought a '72 FJ40 and realized that three out the four (drum) brake cylinder's are seized and one of the grease seals is leaking bad. Since I have to replace the brake cylinder's, I am wondering if I should, instead, take the money that I would have spent on the new cylinder's and use it towards a disc brake conversion. Unless you are really against grinding the knuckle balls, I'd suggest going with the larger pattern birfields and knuckles off a mini truck, FJ60, or 78+ FJ40. I have the Warden adapter for the old firewall, and will be putting in a 78-79 2F w/a Weber. Did not fit a proportioning valve to the rear brake circuit. No issues, worked great for ~6 years (then I upgraded to rear discs with the proportioning valve and and a 4wd mini-truck master cylinder.) Regards ... ….

To explain, the prop valve does absolutely nothing under normal daily brake pressures. Stop and go etc. it lets these pressures by unregulated. It only kicks in and regulates the pressure under extreme braking. Like slamming on the brakes.
