Every time this type of question is asked, and it is asked often, people will come in here and act like certain parts of the city are to be completely avoided.

Anchorage (where I live) is a mix of wealth and poverty. Housing isn't what I would call affordable. Median income ($50-60K) means the average rental will be near or above 50% of your monthly. Smaller places with 1 BD are cheaper but if you have a family, 3BD are $1500/mo and up. 4BD are closer to $2500.Convince me living in Anchorage is better than Fairbanks.
